Hi there! My name is Ian Ashbrook, and I’m a budding Internet Marketer. Welcome to my blog, where I will take you on my Internet Marketing journey.

A little about me:

I live in a small village at the foot of the Angus Glens in Scotland and have been passionate about business creation and management for over 30 years. I have worked in a variety of businesses, both as an employee of a corporation or self-employed, in roles from Non-Destructive Testing to Accountancy, from Hotel Ownership to IT Consultancy, finally, as a University Lecturer.

I have always been curious about technology and how things work. In my early days, I tried to start a new hobby every year; it frequently took me a few years to get a good grasp of what I was doing. Perhaps one of the most satisfying was repairing mechanical watches.

I worked for two years in school and home for socially deprived children in Malta. Most had a watch of one sort or another but, mainly a cheap Timex made from pressed steel.

One boy had a very expensive Patek Philippe.

This was in the days before quartz watches.

When they dropped and broke their watch or went into the sea without taking it off, they would bring it to me to be fixed. 

I supervised an Electrical Installation workshop in the school and when the school work was completed, I allowed the boys to think about a business that they could engage in if there was no electrical work available. The idea was to get them to think a bit. I helped them to design and create the products that they might build and sell. They could only use materials available in the workshop unless they bought the materials themselves. They had access to welding equipment, and materials such as metal conduit tubing, thick wire and sheet steel. One made a simple dustpan, another a pannier holder for his bicycle; and eventually about ten of them for the school cycling club. Another made a table and a set of four chairs for his family.

Why I started this blog:

This blog was created with the goal of sharing my experiences of building my Internet Marketing business; good or bad from scratch.

Perhaps also to help others along the way who are in the early stages of their Internet marketing endeavour.

Whether you’re here to learn, to find out what happens, or just follow along on my journey, I hope you get something out of it. Equally, I can learn from you.

Facts about me:

Favourite food: Difficult, because I mainly enjoy plain cooking but my favourite would be French cuisine; I am not keen on highly spiced foods. I do enjoy a good wine.

Favourite place: Is the rolling countryside of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, where I lived for three years.

Interests: I bought investment grade Fine wines for a few years as a hobby; Bordeaux and Australian. I could never afford to drink the wines I invested in apart from some Australians. When I bought them, they were $600 a case of 6. The best of those are now $500 a bottle.

I would love to have included Burgundy but at $15,000 a bottle it was way out of my price range. So, one day my wife and I set off for St. Emilion at the heart of Bordeaux to taste and learn all about Bordeaux wine.
